Note: I wrote this post in 2010 and I never thought I will be able to find someone I could dedicate this post to. Sixto Rodriguez is the perfect embodiment of how a musician's life should be modeled. Searching for sugarman is an incredible true portrait of an unnoticed musician who lurked in obscurity... Hailed as the next Bob Dylan in making, his music inspired South Africans in 70s to fight for the end of Apartheid.
Artists and creative people are God’s undisputed favorite when it comes to delaying things. God prefers to withhold their due. They never get their due in time, it’s either too early or too late but it’s never on time. Perhaps they even suffer more owing to their excessive thinking and incessant feeling. Their capacity to empathize knows no limits and their ability to feel emotions whether real or imagined is matchless. Miseries and pain become a part of their life as if they were invited personally. But what makes them great is that they never fail to find meaning in anything that comes their way. They never fail to do justice to life and circumstances even when life has been unjust.
They are great story tellers; excellent entertainers because they choose to see things which people apparently miss out. They have a quaint sense of relating to things. They are able to narrate their tales in a language which people can understand. They add humor in the pain; find a new meaning in chaos, even ugly looks beautiful in their creation.
Being passionate about their art, they never fail to try. They just love to create. Each and every moment of their creative indulgence is cherished. They struggle to showcase their art and when they are not given a platform, life becomes the platform. Destiny might paint their life in black and white; but they never fail to add colors in their life and those of others. When life manages to crush their dreams and thwart their desires, they choose to integrate faith in their dreams. In every grain of sand they find a story that is waiting to be told. No one can embrace life the way an artist does, their spirit to create remains undaunted in the times of trial; nothing can knock them down even. They leave this world believing it was the best place to live and that life was the best thing that could have happened to them.
